Joël Crosby, Founder of Guinness Banknotes:
When I was nine years old, I saw a coin from Portugal. It was the first time that I saw foreign money. Since that time I kept every foreign coin or banknote people would ever give me.
When I was fourteen years old, my collection counted banknotes from around 95 countries, and coins from around 110 countries. I learned to buy banknotes online, from a website in The Netherlands.
My collection grew to banknotes from 145 countries, and that’s when I decided that I wanted to be in the Guinness Book of World Records.
But because I didn’t have that much money, I had to stop buying banknotes.
When I was nineteen years old, I started buying banknotes online again. To finance my banknote collection, I had to give up my coin collection, and sell it.
Pretty soon I had more banknotes than anyone in The Netherlands, so it was time for me to start buying banknotes from other websites, such as Ebay.
With my knowledge of computers and web developing, I created this website. By adding the Web Shop to this website, I could finance my hobby more, and get rid of my doubles.
Now, my plan is to make it possible for everyone to buy every banknote from every country that has ever existed, by using my Web Shop.
My future plans are to set up a chain of businesses that work together to become a great place for collectors to buy, and sell, their banknote and coin collections.
We became an official business on the 14th of October, 2014.
